ONLY deaf individuals who are current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as academics holding a university degree
The International Deaf Academics and Researchers Conference (DAC) was launched in 2002 in Austin, Texas, and since then has been held every two years in a different host country. For 2023, the Austrian capital has qualified and will be the venue of the 11th DAC.
For deaf scientists, exchange and networking are essential factors for a sustainable situation and long-term establishment in their own field of research. This is on the one hand due to the linguistic use of a sign language as a minority language, which complicates the access and the exchange in the predominantly hearing and therefore spoken communicating scientific reality, and on the other hand due to the only young discipline of „Deaf Studies“, which in turn requires a networking of deaf scientists on an international level.
With the target group of the deaf international scientific community, the endeavor for fruitful exchange, the bringing together of different branches of science and the promotion of young deaf scientists, the DAC represents a unique and necessary research platform. Footnote for various links.
